Amberswood and Low Hall

Amberswood and Low Hall were created as a result of mining, but today are areas rich in wildlife and ready to be explored.

Amberswood is a 160 hectare nature reserve at the heart of Greenheart. The area has many different environments to discover, from woodlands to wildflowers meadows, grasslands to wetlands. This mix of habitats support many birds, insects and mammals.

Today, over 6km of paths and part of the excellent Loop Line cycle route run through Amberswood, so it is easy to get out and explore.

Low Hall is located right next to Amberswood and, although smaller, is also a very important link in the Wigan Borough wildlife corridor. Low Hall is rich in wildlife and habitats and is a magnet for nesting birds in spring and summer.

The areas are located at the heart of a number of communities. Over the years many projects have taken place with local residents to improve the environment for the future.
