Bickershaw South
Work is now under way to transform part of the former Bickershaw Colliery into a new neighbourhood with up to 650 new homes, 1000 sqm of commercial space and a 40 berth canal marina.
The new road layout is now mostly complete with new traffic lights installed at the bridge with additional sensors for horse riders and cyclists
The infrastructure works will be complete early in the summer, but the contractor (Birse Civil) will continue to maintain the area, cutting the grass and picking up litter etc on a regular basis for the next couple of years until a developer for the site has been procured by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Marina
Under this current phase of works , the Marina will be constructed and filled but no further works will be undertaken apart from the necessary Health & Safety provisions to ensure the marina is maintained appropriately. The 'operational' works will form part of the next phase of construction / engineering works but the marina will not be open for use until spring 2013. It will remain under management of the North West Development Agency who are undertaking the works until a marina operator is in place. An information board is to be erected on site advising on timescales and contact details for when moorings will become available.
